The
landscape around our vacation cottage is one with many hills, to the
North from village Vugrovec, in the South-East part of the Nature Park "Medvednica".
The immediate area has no permanent surface waterways left, so some
animals get closer to vacation cottages and houses in search of water and
sometimes food. Negative human impact on the environment is seen in the clearing of paths, the setting up of electricity poles and the intdroduction of night lights, the unplanned clearing of private forests, people cutting the grass no matter in what state the vegetation is, use of artificial fertilizers and pesticides, the killing of reptiles, pheasants, rabbits and careless garbage dumping. Inspite all of that, there is still a somewhat diverse plant and animal life. We found a lot of protected species, but we would also like to point out some of the rare and unusual species. There are a lot of biotops: meadows, thickets, orchards, vineyards, fields, rocky terrain, young and old leaf forests.
